GLOBAL WETSUIT LAUNCH - The Dakine brand, famous for its quality products and focus on durability, has finally entered the wetsuit arena with the global launch of their cleverly designed new wetsuit range. And we’re super proud to be one of the first stockists!
AFFORDABLE PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY - The Dakine Quantum Wetsuit range embodies Dakine’s game changing approach to performance wetsuit: performance and warmth combined with next level durability at an affordable price. The build quality on the Quantum matches the standards set throughout the range, and even though this is the lowest spec suit in the range it is definitely not entry level, budget or cheap. The Quantum will change your expectation of what an affordable wetsuit can be.
PERFORMANCE THROUGH FIT AND MATERIALS - All seams are 3D stitched and taped or critically taped for maximum security. With the incredible fit and function of our Apex Fit pattern, S type neoprene in all upper body panels and FLX_THERMO lining inside and out, the Quantum has the same full stretch of the Mission model in the arms, shoulders and back - the key areas for paddling and flexibility - making this a performance wetsuit at an insane price.
TOP END FEATURES - Combined with top end features like Compression cut seals, 3D stitch and taped seams this feels like a top end wetsuit.
DURABILITY FOR LONG LIFE PERFORMANCE - Dakine believe that durability creates a longer product lifespan reducing the overall environmental impact (see ECO DETAILS section for the full Eco lowdown). For each model the use of foam, lining and seam construction is adjusted to suit the performance, warmth or price - more DK_Lite neoprene for extreme stretch and lightest weight or more D foam for strength.
Regardless of price, all models use D foam high modulus neoprene and abrasion resistant linings in high wear areas. All seams are twice glued and at least twice reinforced with a combination of 3D stitch, liquid seal and tape, with the exception of the fused jacket and flatlocked spring suit.
Other features for durability include: 3D STITCH - A stitching system for zero water penetration and maximum strength. On 5mm wetsuits they use a double thread system inside and out. RESIST PANELS - Tactically placed abrasion resistant panels in areas of high wear or high material fatigue. ANTI-FRAY CUFF - The finished raw cuff is cut with clamp and black creating a super accurate low profile anti-flush, anti- fray finish. NEOPRENE TAPE - applied to the inside seams and seam junctions.
-Atlantic and English Channel coastline: Summer / Early Autumn
-North Sea coastline: Warm days in Summer
-Water Temp: 15-20 degrees
|Spend Level||The build quality on the Quantum matches the standards set throughout the range, and even though this is the lowest spec suit in the range it is definitely not entry level, budget or cheap. If you have the budget and want added performance features then the Mission or Cyclone are worth a look, but the Quantum will change your expectation of what an affordable wetsuit can be.|
|Personal Preference||The short sleeve is great if you are spending less time in the water or more time with your arms out of the water, (e.g. SUP). If you feel the cold more than others then a 4/3 might be give you more season coverage, or for others this is perfect for Summer through to Autumn. If getting in and out of the wetsuit can be a challenge then a Chest Zip is easier than a Zip Free.|
Alongside better value and product experience for the customer, Durability creates a long product lifespan, reducing the overall environmental impact. The Dakine suits are pretty much up there when it comes to how eco-friendly you can be with a suit without losing performance. And with so many Eco considerations they should be a 5 out 5, but Dakine have rightly considered performance too and so hence the 4.
Featured in every Dakine wetsuit product:
- Reduced PAHs - Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons produced in the creation of neoprene.
- Limestone neoprene - derived from non petrochemicals with a reduced CO2 output of 24%.
- Carbon Black® neoprene. Cuts CO2 emissions by 200g per wetsuit
- AquaA® solvent free lamination eliminates 600g of harmful VOC’s
(Volatile Organic Compounds) per wetsuit.
- Dope Dyed yarn - saves 104L of water and 26% reduced Carbon
Footprint per kg of Fabric
- Manufactured at Sheico Thailand - a Fair trade certified factory
equipped with a solar energy system.
